The mission of the Lafayette County Republican Executive Committee (REC) is to emphasize the conservative principles and values of our Founding Fathers as set forth in the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights.
We also strive to encourage the citizens of Lafayette County, Florida, to become informed and take full advantage of our voice in our Government by voting in all elections.
We believe that an informed and involved electorate is the best way to restore and preserve our Republic.
Twelve delegates and one alternate attended Florida's Presidency 5 Event
held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, September 22-24, 2011. In addition to a weekend of getting to know our presidential and senatorial candidates, delegates participated in the Presidential Straw Poll, culminating the weekend's events on Saturday afternoon.
Results of the Straw Poll were surprising to many with Herman Cain taking first place with 37.11% of the vote. The remaining candidates polled as follows: Rick Perry, 15.43%; Mitt Romney, 14.00%; Rick Santorum, 10.88%; Ron Paul, 10.39%; Newt Gingrich, 8.43%; Jon Huntsman, 2.26%; and Michele Bachman, 1.51%.
